May I speak to Mr. Shawn Tro-Tro-Tro$!%&

The phone rang earlier this week, I checked caller id and it was an 866 number. Really? I am so tired of these numbers. They call trying to sell me insurance, offer me big savings if I change to Direct TV and inquire if I'm happy with my internet carrier. They also remind me that my water will be delivered tomorrow and that I owe $17, 546 to Home Depot!

I reluctantly answered the phone. My conversation went a little something like this.

"Hello, may I speak to Mr. Shawn Tro-Tro-Tro&!&#"? {My last name is not a very tricky one but phone solicitors can never get it right!}

Super, it's going to be one of those phone calls! I reply this is MRS. Shawn Tro%$@.

"Yes, oh um I'm sorry this is Shawn?"

Yes, this is Shawn.

"Oh, I thought you were a man".

Of course you did. I assure you I am Shawn and I am not a man.

"Well Ma'am, I'm calling you from such 'n such collections company and I need to inform you that this call may be recorded. I'm calling in regards to your outstanding balance of $17,546 on your Home Depot account."

I snicker and reply, well this a serious problem because I don't have a Home Depot account.

"Oh you don't?...crickets chirping...Ummm. Oh, I'm sorry Ma'am...clicking of the keyboard...oh yes. I'm sorry, I'm actually calling about your Macy's account. It shows here that you have a payment due on September 28th."

OK, you do realize that today is only September 7th?

"Yes ma'am I was just calling to assure that you would be sending in your payment on or before that date"

Again I snicker. Well I don't pay the bills but I'm certain that if a statement has been mailed my husband will pay it.

"Oh, ok I see. Do you know when he will be making this payment?"

Well, he pays everything electronically so I'm not exactly sure but I would imagine it will be sent prior to the due date of SEPTEMBER 28th!

"OK then, well thank you Ma'am, you have a pleasant day".

Can you explain to me why you're calling from a collections company on an account that is current?

Seriously! Have things gotten so bad that credit card companies are making reminder phone calls now? Are they working with collection companies to scare people into making their payments earlier? How did my account get confused with someone else's {is that a word} and why or how did they have my information? Did Macy's send it to them "just in case" I became delinquent? Seriously!

This phone call made me want to cancel my Macy's card. But then I came to my senses and realized if I did that I would lose out on all of those 20% coupons they mail me! After all Christmas is just 105 sleeps away!
