25 Days of Thankful! Stating the obvious

Day 6: November 6, 2010

I feel the need to state a few completely obvious things I'm thankful for, here's why.

My husband called me earlier in the week to tell me that someone he knows is homeless. He and his wife are getting a divorce and although he has a job it's not enough to make ends meat, the story for so many in this crappy economy. He had been living in his truck for a few days before Babe found out. My husband is a generous man to those he feels have been dealt a hard hand and he's always willing to do what he can to help but these people must be willing to help themselves and not just want a hand out. This particular person is a hard working man who just hasn't been able to catch a break, with some help he will be fine and hopefully one day he will be able to repay the favor to someone else in need.

So with that being said I am thankful for my home. A beautiful house that my husband works very hard for!

Two days after he told me that story he called to tell me that someone he works with had just lost his wife. She was 40. They have 2 young daughters. She was healthy, contracted an infection that attacked her organs, they shut down, she didn't survive.

I am 40. I have 2 semi-young children. I've had my share of health scares but have always bounced right back. Today, right this very moment, I am thankful for my heath!

A few hours after he told me about this poor man dealing with the death of his wife he called back with yet another sad story. A woman in his office has an older son, I'm not sure of his age, who was in a motorcycle accident. His spleen and I believe is kidneys have been removed. He has a broken foot along with a few other injuries. They have placed him in an induced-coma.

More than anything else I am on my knees thanking the good Lord for the health of my girls!

Yes, my thankful list today is obvious and I pray these things are never something I take for granted.

I have a warm house to sleep in at night. I am here to be the best wife and mother I can be to one amazing man and two incredible children who only by the grace of God are healthy!

Geez! What horrible, traumatic things happening around you guys!!! Yes, you are so right that we all need to focus on what a GIFT and BLESSING our homes, health, spouses and children are.

Those stories are Soooo heartbreaking. It is definitely the everyday things that we should be most thankful for. Your husband sounds like the sweetest guy.

I think sometimes the "obvious" things to be thankful for, are the ones we sometimes take for granted. Good for you, that you didn't let them fall through the cracks!

I am so thankful for my health and the fact that Jason, at least, has a steady and secure job. I've been living with the fears of loosing my job due to budget cuts for over a year. It hasn't happened yet, but it could be coming. I'm so lucky to have one steady income to depend on!
