Got a secret? How about a good story or a new delicious recipe? Well, you've come to the right place because IA and I want to talk about it because today is Talk To Us Tuesday! Grab our button and come back to link up with us, any story will do because there's NO RULES here! Come on all the cool kids are doing it!

Halloween is just around the corner. Let me tell you something people, gone are the days when I made or shopped for cute little costumes for my girls. Long gone! After shopping with Peanut for this years costume I literally ached for the years where I could dress them up as fairies and princesses!
When did Halloween go from scary to slutty? I mean seriously, have you seen the costume choices out there!
Upon surveying the costumes I have come to two conclusions. One, these people are crazy if they think I'm letting my 11 year old walk around in the dark, asking strangers for candy with her girly-bits exposed! And two, these people are crazy if they think I'm going to let my 11 year old walk around in the dark, asking strangers for candy with her girly-bits exposed in a $75 dollar costume!
She wants to be a Pirate.
I want her to be a pirate without revealing her booty!
Luckily she agrees!
After saying no to this
and this...
and this
I really wanted this!
All photos came from here
The sections of the Halloween store go a little like this. Crawler...Hey isn't that the star of Debbie Does Dallas? The choices seriously go from adorable or slutty with no middle ground! We agreed on a tween costume, which in case you're wondering means absolutely nothing!
Her costume is a little too short but with a pair of fishnet stockings and boy shorts we were able to obtain full coverage, plus it was less than $50 with all the extras. I think I'll carry the sword, God help anyone who wants to touch her loot, they will be walking away looking like captain Hook!
ARGH!

You are too funny and unfortunately it's true. I've seen what's out there and it doesn't make me happy. I am not looking forward to having to deal with this in the next few years. Why can't there be a happy medium? You, however, could totally pull off that second choice!
Love you, Boo~
xoxo
Lol that was hilarious! That is right! YOu dice them to pieces!
The whole whore-ish Halloween costumes thing started for me in college. I definitely had a phase! But I was nothing compared to some of these girls. I can't believe what some of these girls wear. Good job Mama for keeping your girl looking cute but classy!
This is when I thank God that my girls are still little huh!
I've seen those costumes out, they are super slutty. WTF is wrong with people. How do they seriously think stuff like that for a YOUNG girl is ok??? Good for you mama for not not giving a crap about what she wants to wear!
This reminds me of Mean Girl. I hate that Halloween has turned into this. Even the little girl costumes are getting slutty. I saw a princess costume that didn't have the flesh toned material where the belly cut outs were. Really? And it was meant for my little 5 year old!
Please tell her to keep her pirate booty covered! I can't believe some of those choices!
The teens in my neighborhood walk around in the slutty costumes. I would never let Allison go out in public dressed like that.
See that right there. Society complains when the kids grow up too fast but don't think about what we are allowing marketing to tell them about how they are supposed to look and dress.. Good for you momma for not giving in to major marketing and keeping your little girl a little girl.
We got a catalog in the mail that was for *kid* costumes and the one's for older kids are just like what you've got shown here.
It's outrageous!!!
I don't get it either. I thought those outfits were for role playing to spice up a sex life not walk the neighborhood asking for candy??
so wrong!
Well I have a solution! Move to MN where you can't walk around trick or treating in anything less than a snowsuit most years.
I get so mad every year, wasting money when we just have to throw the winter coats over it anyways. Blah!.
Aw- I actually really like the little kid's costume. I must would've rather sported that, it's more authentic. When have you ever seen a pirate wearing hot pink???
Costumes are so expensive, I'm fighting tooth and nail to find a cheap prom dress (or borrow one) so I can be a princess and I'm not having much luck. Halloween is so stressful!
Ya know, this day and age, you have to start prepping for halloween and getting in shape for your costume because they are so revealing now! I'm cool with dressing like a hobo for now.
We can't wear those kinds of costumes here with out significant frost bite potential. Seriously, you'd freeze those all important girly bits in the weather we usually have for Halloween. I really don't get it and I'm saying another thank heavens for little boys.
Oh, I SO hear you! I'm not trying to find costumes for kids yet - but even finding something for myself that isn't entirely skanky is next to impossible! The guys on the sports talk radio show I listen to in the mornings even called it "Whore-o-ween" this morning in referencing female costumes. When the men are talking about it on sports radio, you know it's becoming an issue!! LOL
Can I just say that I can't stop laughing at you saying you want her to be a pirate without showing her booty?? That cracks me up!!! But I know exactly what you are saying. SLUTTY costumes are all the rage lately. And by lately I mean since forever it seems like. :/
I wasn't happy with a lot of the costumes out there. With boys, the problem is that they're made out of the cheapest fabric. I basically have to dig deep into my artistic reserves to make them so they don't rip apart!
Outfits for 11 year olds look like that?! GASP! Seriously...can I but a brick on my daughter's head to prevent her from getting to that age? I fear 10 years will pass by too quickly and I will soon be in your same quandery (spelling? I suck at it...)
Thank goodness Peanut didn't fight you on covering up her Pirate's booty!!!
I took my 12 year old cousin costume shopping. She wants to be Snow White. Since when does Snow White have a mini skirt and bustier?! I bet Walt Disney is rolling in his grave.
this is exactly why halloween has become one of my least favorite holidays. lame. glad you got it all figured out!
Totally agree! When did Halloween become everyone's chance to dress like a slut?? I was in line at at the store and there was this high school couple behind me- she was talking about an idea for a costume and he was all- no that wouldn't show off enough! I wanted to turn around and smack him in the head- and her for being with a guy like that.
I was so tempted to tell a group of teenage sluts- I mean trick-or-treaters that it was a good thing they were in a group of they would be accused of prostitution for sure.
I know! Seriously! I'm surprised that Strawberry Shortcake doesn't look like a hoe bag these days.
this is when i'm happy to have a little boy he went from wanting to be a Whoopi cushion to a pokemon. yay me
Totally slutty. But I wish I had the body and the boots of the first picture.
Lmao!! I love the one you chose. (I own the others personally. Not really. Okay, I do.)
My daughter is going as Snooki again this year. More coverage, of course. No kookahs will be hanging out, I assure you!
This was an awesome post! Thanks for coming to my blog, yours is hilarious!!! And my daughter is gonna be a pirate too! Seriously, so hard to find a good one. This is the one we got: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/costumes/features/groupcostumes/pirates/PRD~722201/Petite+Pirate+Costume.jsp
Keep those girl bits covered, lol!
I'm anti-dressing-like-a-slut for Halloween. It's not me.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and the good wishes.
I'm trying to remember the little girls outfit I saw at Target the other day. Ugh...I can't remember (my brain is on the blink), but I recall clearly being horrified by it. I took hold of my daughter's hand and walked QUICKLY by...
Stop it!!!! Those pix were bad, but your commentary is hilarious! (Have I mentioned I'm so glad I have boys...?)
How did I not comment on this the first time on Tuesday??? Those costumes are for naughty adults who like to play in the bedroom - not HALLOWEEN!!!!!!
